The purpose of this study was to check empirically the relevance of the near-infrared hemoencephalography (NIR-HEG), which assesses local brain blood oxygenation, in facilitation of the diagnosis and behavioral therapy in dyslexics. The study was carried out in children and teenagers with physiologically recognized dyslexia, of three increasing age-groups: 6–7, 9–10, and 19–20 years old. Studies of the physiological response of human half-body illumination by a specially designed bed comprising large number of LEDs emitting in the red and near infrared spectral range were carried out in a group of 32 volunteers comprising healthy subjects and hypertension patients. Blood pressure, heart rate and arterial blood oxygen saturation, as well as the bed surface temperature were continuously monitored during the measurement sessions with and without aluminum foil cover on the bed surface. Purpose To determine whether T2* measurements quantifying myocardial iron overload in thalassemia patients are influenced by myocardial fibrosis and blood oxygenation. Materials and Methods Multislice multiecho T2* was performed in 94 thalassemia patients in order to quantify myocardial iron overload. We present the development and validation of a new approach for quantitative functional imaging of human skin based on the machine learning technique for the analysis of the hyperspectral skin images. The considered skin parameters include blood volume fraction, blood oxygenation, melanin content, and the epidermal layer thickness. Additionally, the degree of residual polarization of the reflected light has been analyzed. The validity of the approach has been confirmed by the initial preclinical tests with the tissue-mimicking phantoms, functional in-vivo skin tests, and pilot clinical study of type II diabetic patients. Introduction: To offer respiratory support for patients with lung disease, a novel technological solution for blood pumping and oxygenation is being developed. The pump–lung system was designed to integrate fiber membranes into six packages radially embedded in a rotating hollow shaft placed along the longitudinal axis of the device.
